Q&A-
  1.  Is there an equivalent to Rhienbeck or Knitters East in California? Stitches West, I am goint to the expo on Saturday Feb 20th. 
  2. Quilting stuff: I will do a segment on this later in the podcast. Jessie25 on Ravelry known as Jessie :) Is starting to learn to quilt and wanted to know my feedback on the Quilt as you go method.
  3. KerryJoyce on Raverly, Kerry :) She also is starting to quilt and wanted me to a segment on what tools do you really need to get started in quilting. THat will come later in the podcast. She also is in big trouble because I think she just tipped me over the edge on buying a spinning wheel. She recommended the Bliss by Woolmakers they are from Holland. It looks like the perfect size.

Quilting Segment:
New Quilters segment what do I need to get started quilting?
  • Hand Quilting:
    • Needles- I recommend Roxanne hand quilting needles 
    • Thimble :) forgot to mention that in the podcast
    • Thread Clippers
    • fabric friendly pen or pencil
    • Thread: cotton 50wt for piecing, silk thread for needle turn appliqué and waxed cotton thread for hand quilting. 
    • Fabric Scissors
    • Seam ripper
    • Hoop for when you get to hand quilting the quilt (forgot to mention this as well)
    • iron
    • ironing surface
    • Glass pins (I like the clover brand for these)
    • glue baste it if you are doing appliqué (I like the roxanne brand) 
    • cutting mat
    • Cutting rulers
    • rotary cutter
    • fabric, don't skimp get good quality fabric
    • Batting
    • Basting spray or safety pins to baste your quilt

  • Machine Quilting:
    • Sewing Maching
    • Machine needles, I prefer Schmetz Microtex 80 for most projects including machine quilting
    • Thread Clippers
    • Thread: Cotton 50wt for piecing and most machine quilting, but you can experiment with quilting with 40wt and other fancy threads. 
    • Fabric Scissors
    • Seam ripper
    • fabric friendly pen or pencil
    • Glass pins (I like the clover brand for these)
    • Iron
    • Ironing surface
    • cutting mat
    • rotary cutter
    • fabric, don't skimp get good quality fabric
    • Cutting ruler(s)
    • Batting
    • hand needle for finishing off binding by hand
    • Basting spray or safety pins to baste your quilt
